Revised Drought Management Plan Adopted
The Coastal Bend region has adopted revised drought management and water restrictions reflecting the diversified supply available via the Mary Rhodes Pipeline which delivers water from the Navidad and Colorado Rivers. Some restrictions are in effect at all times regardless of drought conditions.

State Loan Sought for Desalination Planning Effort
The City of Corpus Christi and the San Patricio Municipal Water District have jointly applied to the Texas Water Development Board for funding from the State Water Implementation Fund for Texas (SWIFT) program to take the next necessary pre-design steps toward future desalination of seawater as a regional water supply source.

Corpus Christi's "No Use" Notice Does Not Apply to Customers Supplied by District
This notice was posted to assure customers supplied by the Water District that they were not impacted by a notice issued by the City on December 14th directing customers inside the city not to use water for consumption or human contact. This followed a reported back-flow event involving an industrial water user. After extensive testing the City order was lifted on December 18th.

Retired Elevated Tank Safely Taken Down
An elevated water tank built by the Water District in 1969 and removed from service in 2007 was dropped by a demolition contractor without incident. The tank was dismantled and removed from the site in Ingleside.

Boil Water Notice Does Not Apply to SPMWD Customers
Water provided by the District is safe to drnk with no need to boil drinking water. District water comin from our Ingleside freatment facility has passed all quality tests. The City of Corpus Christi issued a boil water notice for customers in the city on May 13th because samples showed low residual chlorine levels there. The order was terminated on May 25th.

Mary Rhodes Pipeline Phase 2 Nearing Completion
Work is expected to be complete by the end of April on the pipeline, intake and pump station components of the project that will bring water from the Colorado River at Bay City to Corpus Christi area customers including the Water District. The $160 million construction project provides access to water rights purchased from the Garwood Irrigation Company in 1998.

Al Nelson Remembered for His Dedication
Al Nelson, a long-time member of the District Board of Directors representing Portland, is remembered for his integrity and personal dedication to maintaining the District's sound financial position. Nelson died March 13 at the age of 83. He had served on the board for 30 years.

Tom Bridges Replaces Al Nelson on District Board
Tom Bridges has been appointed to represent the City of Portland on the Water District Board of Directors. He takes the place of Al Nelson who resigned after 30 years on the board. Bridges served 23 years as District Attorney and is now a municipal court prosecutor.

voestalpine Iron Processing Plant Nearing Completion
Construction is complete on a water line to serve the new voestalpine Hot Briquetted Iron manufacturing plant. The facility will go through testing and commissioning with full operations expected by mid 2016.

Once-A-Week Watering Restriction Stays in Effect
The Coastal Bend Region is in the process of updating mandatory water use restrictions to reflect the successful conservation efforts achieved by area communities during the past year. Using authority set up in contractual agreements, Corpus Christi has elected to keep area communities under Stage 2 restrictions and to start the process of making major revisions to the region's Drought Contingency Plan.

DON ROACH RETIRES AFTER 40 YEAR WATER CAREER
After 20 years as the District's assistant manager, Don Roach has retired to his place near Goliad on the San Antonio River. Earlier in his career he worked for the Sabine and Trinity river authorities.

LAKE LEVELS TRIGGER STATE 2 WATER USE RESTRICTIONS - The combined water in storage in Lake Corpus Christi and Choke Canyon Reservoir dropped below 40% in mid-July and this triggered mandatory water use restrictions for customers throughout the region.

REGION MOVES FORWARD TO DELIVER COLORADO RIVER WATER -
The Coastal Bend's regional water system is moving ahead with construction of Phase 2 of the Mary Rhodes Pipeline which will deliver 35,000 acft/year from the Colorado River. Rights to that water were optioned in 1992 and purchased in 1999.
